Dough Hoe Hoe
The huge expenditure on Lick the Bowl Clean combined with the lack of commercial success of Rap and Roll and the legal expenses of fighting a number of law suits had taken their toll by the summer of 1995 and both RockItt and their label Korma Records were virtually broke. It was against this backdrop that the band, under some pressure from Korma owner Mr Patel, set about producing an album containing covers of popular Christmas songs. The group's original idea of recording Christmas Carols with re-written lyrics was vetoed by Korma Record's lawyers fearing further expensive legal challenges from the Church. Even the album cover was toned down; the original artwork which saw Roxy Flange evocatively posing naked with a reindeer being replaced with less controversial photography. The group were reportedly unhappy with the compromises made on the album and insisted on the tongue-in-cheek title Dough Hoe Hoe - a deliberate reference to the motives behind the record. The paying public, however, lapped it up; pre-Christmas sales were very healthy and the band were back in demand and back in the black. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
