Lick the Bowl Clean
In 1991 RockItt were riding the crest of a wave of chart success and critical acclaim. But trouble was just around the corner as in March of that year they headed to Air Studios in Montserrat to begin work on their fifth studio album. The eight track album took 15 months to complete and cost an incredible £64.2 million (equivalent to £7.8 million per track). In a rare and uncharacteristic display of excess, the band's bar bill alone came in at more than £30 million; the Mule spent seventeen weeks overdubbing a single guitar solo; Shag Fury had a white Steinway baby-grand piano specially designed, manufactured from mother of pearl and airlifted by helicopter and when it arrived he decided they keys were too narrow and pushed it into a swimming pool. The enormous cost of the project, combined with some alleged accounting irregularities meant that the band returned to the UK virtually penniless.
Lick the Bowl Clean is one of RockItt's finest albums though critics of the album point out that the heavily produced tracks run counter to the band's original direct, uncompromising rock style. The cover of the album was the first to feature Wayne Kranium's second wife, Roxy Flange. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
