RockItt launch RockItt Idol search for new vocalistBand scour the world to find singer worthy of fronting RockIttNovember 4, 2007 -- Legendary supergroup RockItt have today stepped up the search for a new singer with the launch of RockItt Idol. The band have been without a lead vocalist ever since the unexpected and untimely death of former frontman Thor Stingray in September 2007. The month long international competition is open to everyone. Potential candidates are invited to submit videos of themselves singing to video sharing website YouTube. The video should also contain footage of the potential stars explaining why they have that special 'X-factor' that makes them worthy of fronting the band and something special to catch the judges eyes. Members of RockItt will assess the videos and a shortlist of candidates will be invited to a series of auditions that will be held in twelve countries across four continents. The final selection will be made by the band in combination with votes from members of the Official RockItt Fan Club - a move which fan club spokesperson Jayne Knockers has enthusiastically welcomed. "This is great news for RockItt fans everywhere", said Knockers (23), "and to think that members of the Official RockItt Fan Club will have a small say in who gets into the band is just... well it's unbelievable!". Keyboard virtuoso Shag Fury is equally pleased. "This is entirely in keeping with the spirit of RockItt to connect and engage in as meaningful way as possible with our fan base". Bass guitarist Wayne Kranium - himself no stranger to engaging with the odd, usually female, fan - agreed, adding: "Yeah, it will be interesting to see the talent that's on show out there. The band is going into this with no preconceptions and a completely open mind", he continued, "though for some entirely unknown reason I rather suspect we might end up with a female vocal artiste with blonde curly hair..." The band have been linked with a number of possible singers in recent months including cult TV star David Hasselhoff - who himself is a successful pop singer. "Those rumours were really completely unfounded", said Shag Fury's Personal Assistant (UK and Asia), Boadicea Stiletto who has actually been widely credited with starting the speculation. The RockItt Idol competition runs until the end of November 2007. |
