RockItt fly to Burma to aid the aid operationBand are "doing what they can" in aftermath of Cyclone Nargis disaster...May 6, 2008 -- In their latest humanitarian charity event, international supergroup RockItt have flown to Southwest Burma to assist with the aid effort following the devastation caused by Cyclone Nargis. The cyclone hit Burma on Saturday and members of the band wasted no time in responding. Guitarist Buzz Muffberger (pictured below left) cut short his holiday in Baghdad to attend an intensive training course on brain surgery over the weekend before flying on to the disaster zone. "He [Muffberger] has the hands of a skilled surgeon anyway", said keyboard maestro Shag Fury, "so the transition from guitarist to emergency brain surgeon was a relatively simple one".
Singer Margot Chutney has got in on the humanitarian aid act too. She has organized the collection and delivery of fourteen truckloads of teddy bears to orphaned children in the region. "I've really enjoyed the journey down with the truck drivers - there are 28 of them working in shifts", said Chutney, "and they have given up their time and their diesel for free so I made sure I got a ride with each and every one of them, just to say thank you", continued the songstress. Fury has hinted that the band may do a special charity fund raising gig in Burma. "Margot is pulling out all of the stops to give relief - she's literally been at it 24 x 7", said Shag. "In fact, each member of the band is doing what they can and we may well do some kind of show. We thought we might play in Irrawaddy with eighties band Shawaddywaddy supporting us", said the keyboard player. Drummer Minty Clinch was too busy rebuilding a convent school to make a comment.
